I haven’t shared much about all the mini sessions and the wonderful families I’ve had the joy of photographing as an East Bay family photographer over the past few years, but today I’m excited to finally share one of those special sessions!

What are Fall Mini Sessions?

As an East Bay family photographer, I love offering mini sessions, which are short, 20-minute photo sessions that give you the perfect opportunity to capture your family’s annual holiday card photos or update any special life moments like anniversaries, maternity, pet portraits, or even headshots. These sessions are only available in the fall and take place at stunning Bay Area locations, giving you a seasonal backdrop that adds a unique touch to your photos.

Since mini sessions are scheduled back-to-back, they tend to be fast-paced. If you have little ones who need a bit more time to warm up to the camera, I recommend booking a regular session. This will allow for a more relaxed experience without the time pressure and lets your little ones settle into the session comfortably.

Last Year’s East Bay Fall Mini Session at Garin Park

Garin Park is one of my favorite locations in the East Bay for fall mini sessions. It offers beautiful rolling hills, and the pops of yellow from the trees create a perfect autumnal vibe for your photos. I always look forward to returning there because it truly captures the magic of fall in the Bay Area.

One of my favorite sessions from last year was with the S family. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing them three times now, and it’s always a joy to see them again. It’s incredible to witness how much baby Y has grown! The last time I photographed him, he wasn’t yet walking on his own. But this year, he was not only walking—he was running all over the place! It’s always heartwarming to see how much children change from session to session, and watching baby Y’s newfound energy and independence was so fun to capture.

What I loved most about this session was how relaxed and natural it felt. His parents didn’t force any poses or smiles, but rather allowed him to be himself. They made him laugh naturally by playing and interacting with him, and this brought out his infectious giggles and smiles. One moment that really stood out was when they started playing catch with him. His laughter filled the air, and I was able to capture those genuine moments of pure joy.

This is what makes mini sessions so special—capturing the everyday magic of family life, the candid moments, and the small, fleeting details that make your family uniquely yours. When children are small, there’s so much you can do to bring out their authentic joy in photos, whether it’s throwing them in the air, swinging them around, or placing them on your shoulders. These playful, candid moments tell the story of your family and capture the essence of this season of life.
